Launching River Trams on the Southern Bug

After analysing urban mobility, the Vinnytsia Spatial Development Agency has developed a concept for river transport. The Southern Bug can become not only the city's landmark but a fully-fledged transport artery.

What problems river transport can help solve

  • Congested roads. Part of the passenger flow moves from the streets to the water.
  • Air pollution. Modern electric and hybrid vessels reduce emissions.
  • Poor accessibility of some districts. The river connects parts of the city that are hard to reach by land.
  • Lack of space. The river is a ready-made “corridor” that needs no road widening.

Amsterdam's experience

In Amsterdam, water buses have long been part of the public transport system: they carry residents and tourists and help ease traffic on the city's streets.

Vinnytsia sits on the Southern Bug, and that opens up new opportunities. If the city makes smart use of its water resources, the river can become part of residents' everyday routes.
